Pizza and Beer by the Peconic River
I’ve written about pizza and beer before. It’s a great combo, made better when you throw in some scenic beauty. Here is the scenic part. The Peconic River starts near Calverton, NY and empties into Peconic Bay at Riverhead, NY. Driving along West Main St. in Riverhead, you are paralleling the river, which is out of the driver’s sight. Too bad, because the river is beautiful.
If you visit Roadhouse Pizza on West Main St. in Riverhead, you get to enjoy some great pizza, salads, and lots more, as the river flows by.
The River from the Roadhouse
Picnic tables with umbrellas, some friendly geese who do NOT try to eat your food, a cool breeze, and some delish pizza. Here is what we saw from our table.
- Looking East on the Peconic
- Geese on Patrol
- Looking South across the river
So where is this excellent river view with benefits (like good food and cold beer)? You can find Roadhouse Pizza here:

While eating, we saw some folks canoeing the river. Yes, it was a bit shallow right near the Roadhouse, but it looked like fun. I’ll be looking into a canoe trip down the river this fall. Until then, enjoy your trip around town.
Hi Marian and Stu, nice to meet you, and your world of Long Island. We’ve never been there, but maybe one day we will visit. You make it sound delicious!
